The makers of Australia’s smallest quantum computer are confident they will be able to get the final, lunchbox-sized product to market earlier than planned with a new research hub accelerating the development of critical materials and fabrication processes.will be handed over to its first client in two weeks and be on the market within five years, says Marcus Doherty, co-founder and chief scientific officer at Quantum Brilliance.
“The entire purpose is to solve the challenge of how do you get the classical computer and the quantum computer to work together as a coprocessor,” said Dr Doherty. Unlike other quantum computers under development by the likes of IBM and Google, which aim to replace traditional supercomputers, Quantum Brilliance is small and its use will be integrated into things such as satellites, robots and autonomous vehicles, Dr Doherty said.
