Woodfibre LNG would require increased fracking in northeast B.C., with an estimated 24 new fracking wells drilled every year. The fracked gas will be transported via a new high-pressure pipeline running through residential and commercial areas in Squamish, putting anyone who lives or works nearby at risk. The pipeline then goes underneath the Skwelwil’em Squamish estuary wildlife management area, and through a mountain.
The project also envisions floating LNG storage tanks in the waters of Átl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound, and LNG carriers bunkering in Vancouver’s English Bay — both posing serious threats to human safety and to the marine environment.
