There was chaos yesterday at the popular Alaba International market, following a violent clash between traders and Agberos, also called area boys.

Unconfirmed reports claimed the traders are against the demand for money by the area boys, in the area.

The Guardian learnt that some persons injured in the fracas have been taken to the hospital for treatment. But spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin said normalcy had been restored in the area.Trouble started when some aggrieved traders protested extortion by members of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria , in the area.It took the intervention of the military and anti-riot policemen, who were drafted to the market to prevent bloodshed between the two groups.

Hundeyin, who confirmed the clash said the police and other security agencies restored normalcy at the market.
