A Wawa convenience store under construction in Southside Jacksonville has received multiple permits issued as the chain seeks to have a double-digit number of locations in Jacksonville.
The 8742 Baymeadows Road store, west of Interstate 95, will sit on 6,119 square feet. Three $1 million construction permits were issued related to constructing the building, the dumpster enclosure and a fuel canopy. There are currently nine Wawa locations in the city. The Pennsylvania-based company has rapidly expanded in the area since 2017, when the company announced its first two stores on Wilson Boulevard in Jacksonville and on Blanding Boulevard in Orange Park. Its reach now extends to Clay, Flagler and St. Johns counties.
Records show the land was purchased for $775,000 on March 31, 2020 by Tampa-registered Bw Baymeadows Way LLC, listed as the owner on the permits.
