Breaking: The FTC is suing Microsoft in an attempt to block its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, it's been reported.

, Microsoft exclusives despite assurances it had given to European antitrust authorities that it had no incentive to withhold games from rival consoles.”

The FTC issues administrative complaints like this when it has “reason to believe” the law is being violated, and that legal proceedings would be in the public interest. The allegations will now be tried in a formal hearing before an administrative law judge. Holly Vedova, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Competition, stated: “Microsoft has already shown that it can and will withhold content from its gaming rivals. Today we seek to stop Microsoft from gaining control over a leading independent game studio and using it to harm competition in multiple dynamic and fast-growing gaming markets.”claims may be withheld from it to some degree following the deal

In recent weeks, Xbox has been trying to emphasise its commitment to keeping Call of Duty – arguably the main game affecting this issue – on

The FTC are just pissy that they got comm banned on Xbox for saying slurs in COD game chat

FTC has tried to stop companies before, including Xbox, and failed. Honestly at this point I don't care if the deal goes through but most likely it will.

Good luck with that. 👍

Update: Microsoft has responded, stating that it will fight the FTC in court. “While we believed in giving peace a chance, we have complete confidence in our case and welcome the opportunity to present our case in court.”

I think it's time Microsoft opens all it's market assets and I mean all some countries might use their technology very fruitfully and still make money if the deal falls through they should think about it.

Sony scared

FTC? What's that?

Sony is behind the FTC

This feels oddly familiar...

Another battle the ftc will lose😂😂😂🤷🏼

Good.

Wow. Sony must be bribing hard.

FTC gonna lose this hard they are literally saying you can’t compete with the market leader by making competitive acquisitions that will also end up benefiting & supporting other platforms ftcs argument makes no sense

You all know that when this acquisition is blocked, Microsoft will then go by the IP of call of duty because buying an IP doesn’t need regulatory approval like this deal does. They will 100% take it off PS, this is the point Microsoft flex’s and it won’t be good for anyone fml

Microsoft when they walk into court.

I dont get what the fuss is about? The merger is a good deal, activison blizzard NEED new leaders, now. And microsoft is way more pro consumer then sony hs ever been

Lol

I don't see the problem here. Why is it suddenly a problem for companies to buy game studios when its microsoft

Last ditch effort from PlayStation ..

At least thr ftc has enough sense to see past phil spencers bullshit.

Sony, FTC and CMA vs Microsoft:

Wow sony so desperate despite making games exclusive themselves they won't allow Microsoft do the same... Hypocrisy and greed

everyone is going to be crying about sony over this BS.

Imagine failing the console wars for years and then trying to buy your way to the top 😂 and nobody wants it on the nintendo, what are these people on.

Hey Microsoft if u need a decent attorney heres your Chance

i am confused...shouldn't it be the other way around

Gorgeous🥰

I don't think it means what everyone thinks it does.

Breaking: Microsoft lawyers will perform a massacre

Being a fan of Xbox feels a lot like being a NY Jets fan. 🙄

Sony buys studios - 'Nothing to see here' Microsoft buys studios - 'REEEE MICROSOFT BAD' The bias is real.

👏🔝

Lol, they can try

I remember Phill sais case by case before lol and after he change he said where GAMEPASS is ,😂

Here's what happens if this deal is blocked. Activision will sell it's IP and associated studios to MS. Activision then just doesn't sell anything, becomes a shell company like Atari and that's all she wrote.

-.-....

FTC will argue they are withholding popular content from competitors and i think that will be a hard argument to make considering their actions since the acquisition.

Lets go FTC, huge publshers should remain neutral. That is whats best for all gamers

Ftc are paid by Sony

I'm ready to see the FTC lose again

Makes me want to buy donuts and have them delivered to the FTC offices. Glad to see a regulation body do it’s job.

Kiss all those marketing deals goodbye you don't deserve any of them after the trouble you caused and I'm really sick and tired of the media trying to portray Microsoft as the bad guy here always thought most of them are nothing but fanboys that's basically what they're ran by

Is anyone else beside me tired of this already?

Good.

I'm happy to see this I can't wait to witness xbox absolutely destroy Sony last line of defense

xbonerz down horrendously

Pure bullshit. We all know the point is every big game of Microsoft in the Gamepass service. CoD being the biggest of them. An option to play every CoD for $14 monthly. That beats everytime paying $70-120 per game.

Xbox is about to embarrass the FTC and leave Sony with nothing 💀

Iikely won't make it to court, this is how the ftc gets concessions. Sony is burning of bridges you don't fuck with investors money. $95 a share is way more than what the stock is worth and the payday was hugh. What if Activision signs massive exclusivity deals with Xbox lol

Microsoft is gonna eat them alive

Microsoft will bribe the court and convince them to agree with this acquisition. They're truly evil.

JIM (THE GOAT) RYAN to Phil Minimus Spencer today!

America is suing American company cause it bought an American company.

Easy win for Microsoft

Good, Microsoft is the worst thing in gaming since they don't care about gaming. They want to build nothing but buy everything. Subscriptions is what they want not to innovate or create.

This is great news as Sony will be called in to court aswell meaning alot is getting exposed by both sides just like apple vs epic

A.k.a, Sony's donated some money to the FTC

?

Would be awesome to see microsoft sue the FTC in turn. Crying Jim Ryan seems to have deep pockets for sony playstation to get their way with lies [especially when every complaint he has is what Sony's done for years]

This screams desperation

lol

People following this situation closely aren't shocked by this

Imagine a Japanese government body suing to prevent a Japanese company from buying another Japanese company who ASKED to be bought because it would hurt an American company who’s already the leader in that market. EMBARRASSING😖🤢🤢

I'll gladly trade the failing of the acquisitions if this case bring to an end the whole third party and timed exclusive

FTC bout to get cooked in court 😂

Great use of taxpayer money.

F in the chat for Nintendo players

If I was MS, after the case has concluded and the merger finalized, I'd leave Call of Duty off Playstation for a few years. They had a chance to exhibit good faith negotiating but instead chose to fight.

Oh so now “they’re attempting to block”?! Really?! Just yesterday everyone was throwing shade at Sony because of the CoD deal with Nintendo cause the deal was going forward but today FTC is “blocking”?! No my friend FTC is REGULATING so we don’t have a monopoly over the market!

Bruh.

lol

Hopefully the FTC and the CMA will like becoming apart of Activision to make more Tony hawk games

Finally. This is what I wanted. Now we'll get a lot of data, like how many Xbox one sold, Xbox games sales etc. In the end Microsoft is going to win but we'll get a lot of information along the eay.

Microsoft have already offered concessions. So this is gonna make the ftc case look weak and it will be approved by the courts

Here come the Twitter lawyers lol

FTC is 0 for 4 in suing tech companies since Khan took over, soon to be 0 for 5. Exercise in utter futility but sure, let's jump though these hoops anyway I guess.

OMG this is massive news

They just want to drag it out. That's fine.

Rip Xbox game pass

And this is how it becomes clear that many of the journalists who cover video games are just gamers; they never cared about the opion of knowledgeable professionals, who by the way predicted this outcome 🤷‍♂️

Shiii getting good.

Good. I am neither pro-Sony nor anti-Microsoft but these megamergers are NOT good for competition, as the past illustrates. Mergers like these are ushering in a new Technological Gilded Age where a small number of companies control information & entertainment and deserve scrutiny

W

Microsoft will win

Only xbots think this is good. Everyone else is an actual gamer that had a brain. Competition has been healthy in gaming until Microsoft.

Update: Microsoft has responded, stating that it will fight the FTC in court. “While we believed in giving peace a chance, we have complete confidence in our case and welcome the opportunity to present our case in court.”

What a shame, smh

Can this shit just end please

Get ready to lose another court case then lol

It’s posturing. Lina Khan just wants to get a settlement so she can tell the people she got Call of Duty on Nintendo, instead of Microsoft saying it

FTC is desperate to keep Bobby Kotick in power?

FTC taking the award today

I mean, it was either letting it through now or challange/sue to try to delay it.

Huge w SY No to buying huge publishers

'but but Nintendo said yes......' - Xbots.

Their gonna lose badly in court.

Right decision, consumer it's first and playstation has the biggest fanbase and carried whole gaming industry without playstation support any game on activision would be flop like every xbox games.

Good hope they win

This is music to my ears. Really hope this is blocked 🙏🏾

Get ready for the great future of Activision if it gets blocked... More Diablo immortals and overpriced Skins and gun colors for everyone! Hope you like microtransactions because that's Activison's future. There was a reason they wanted to sell...

Microsoft have so much in their favor. I don’t see this ending in a victory for the FTC. Hell, when the former FTC chairman is confident in the merger being approved and going through, and 2 of the commissioners in support of it? I think the deal will go through
