USA TODAY Network Ohio spoke with Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw about the train derailment, aftermath and what comes next.

The East Palestine community and the state of Ohio must take Norfolk Southern to court immediately. Nonbinding 'promises' to remediate a disaster on such a serious scale coupled with Norfolk Southern's history of infractions and similar disasters make legal settlement mandatory.
