MND Scotland says the money will help drive the next phase of the pioneering trial.

A charity has announced a "historic" £2m investment in what is said to be the UK's biggest ever motor neurone disease clinical drug trial.

Dr Jane Haley, director of research for MND Scotland, said: "This is the largest single research investment MND Scotland has ever made and will help drive the next phase of this pioneering trial, ensuring equitable access to a clinical trial for people with MND. One of those fundraisers is Alex Treadway from Edinburgh who raised £150,000 for the My Name'5 Doddie foundation by cycling the North Coast 500.The foundation was set up by rugby legend Doddie Weir, who died last November aged 52 after a six-year battle with MND. It works closely with MND Scotland and the MND Association.
