U.S. stocks opened higher Thursday as investors assessed the latest jobless claims report and Treasury yields fell. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.93% was up 0.6% soon after the opening bell, while the S&P 500 SPX, +1.20% gained 0.9% and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, +1.29% climbed 1.

3%, according to FactSet data, at last check. The Department of Labor said Thursday that initial jobless claims rose 5,000 to 217,000 in the week ending Oct. 28. That suggested some softening in a sturdy labor market. Meanwhile, the yield on the 10-year Treasury note was trading about 11 basis points lower Thursday morning at around 4.65%, FactSet data show.
