Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says the federal government's $250 million support package for Central Australia is seeing results. Critics say it's too early to tell.

The Commonwealth announced an extra $8 million for public school upgrades in the NT, in addition to the $14 million it pledged on Monday for extra police and community support.

"If a teacher comes to me and wants a resource for their room or wants to try an idea, I'm able to say yes — and I haven't been able to say that for so long," she said. The federal government on Tuesday announced an extra $8 million for public school infrastructure upgrades across the Northern Territory.Mr Albanese told ABC Radio Alice Springs the $14 million was "new money" and would allow an additional 51 people to be employed, including 35 police officers.
