The 10,000-square-foot, five-bedroom home listed for $13 million includes a 2,000-square-foot rooftop deck overlooking the Hudson River.

In the 1880s, New York’s Riverside Drive was predicted to overtake Fifth Avenue as the Big Apple’s “millionaire colony,” and by the early 1900s, the leafy street overlooking the Hudson River was lined with about 100 free-standing and rowhouse mansions. The historic Riverside Drive-West 105 Street District is cheek-to-jowl with fashionable residences, once occupied by celebrated names like jazz royal Duke Ellington and film starlet Marion Davies.

Many of the neighborhood’s elegant style residences are tied to a renowned architect, and the work of distinguished architect Robert D. Kohn, who studied at the in Paris in the early 1890s, is on fine display in a 10,000-square-foot Beaux-Arts mansion that’s newly on the market for $13 million. Completed in 1902 and today known as the house stands five stories with five en-suite bedrooms, plus a couple of powder rooms. There’s an also a basement apartment.

The icing on the cake at The River Mansion would have to be its rooftop terrace, which spreads out over 2,000 square feet with lounge seating, a fire pit, and dining area. Its unobstructed views of the Hudson River and George Washington Bridge are what truly make it one-of-a-kind. Carl Gambino of Compass holds the Riverside Drive listing.
