Edaire Louis, the owner of Bonga-Lo African Haitian Cuisine and Market, is trying to bring his son to Rochester from Haiti as gang violence continues to dominate life in the country.

"I miss my mom," said Louis. "I miss my father. I miss my son that I haven’t seen for years or only be able to talk on the phone and I haven’t talked to him in four days because communication’s so bad back there right now that I don’t know the next phone call that I’m going to get. Is it a bad phone call? Is it a good, positive phone call?"

Edaire and his family live hours away from the Port-au-Prince, which is largely under siege, but the impact of the violence as reverberated across Haiti.
