City Council

An independent filmmaker said the three new programs created to attract production companies and filmmakers could take Jacksonville to the next level.

Jacksonville City Council passed legislation that will give grants to attract production companies and filmmakers to Jacksonville.– The Jacksonville Film & Television Office will manage the new programs passed by city council.

The first two are rebate programs for production companies. One is for film and the other is for commercial production. The third program would give grants to local filmmakers whose goal is wider theatrical distribution, streaming services, or film festivals. The programs aim to help Jacksonville compete against other cities that attract film production companies and help the local economy.“That is absolutely amazing,” Junior Ashwood said. “Now every independent filmmaker doesn’t have the same budget so those that are lucky enough to fund it ourselves with a higher budget we’re just blessed that way. With the city doing this with the content we are able to do, that is an absolute prayer.”Copyright 2024 by WJXT News4JAX - All rights reserved.
