Chicken soup may soothe the soul, but it can’t cure what ails the beleaguered DVD rental business. The parent company of Redbox — the onetime home entertainment powerhouse best known for its red self-service kiosks ubiquitously located at pharmacies, convenience stores and grocers across the country — filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Friday. The filing listing debts totaling $970 million and assets worth $414 million.
