Ontario axing Beer Store deal could deter investment, business group warns

The Progressive Conservative government tabled legislation last week that would terminate a 10-year contract with The Beer Store in order to allow the sale of beer and wine in corner stores.

It was signed by the previous Liberal government and permitted beer and wine to be sold in hundreds of grocery stores. The president and CEO of the chamber says cancelling a contract sends an alarming message to the business community in Ontario and beyond. Rocco Rossi says the business advocacy group has been supportive of this government, but breaking a legitimate contract is a short-sighted approach.Beer products are on display at a Toronto beer store on Thursday, April 16, 2015.

BS, this monopoly that has received sole source contracts for decades despite changing to foreign ownership deserves to be undone. It’s the 21 century why should any government limit where you can buy a beer to one company? Next up privatize the LCBO

If it deters this kind of shady, screw-the-taxpayer deals, that would be a very, very good thing.
