Organization has lobbied for states to prohibit plastic bans across the country as companies attempt to reduce waste.

Soft drink giants Coca-Cola and PepsiCo have announced they are cutting ties with a trade association representing the plastic industry over concerns their memberships contradict a commitment to reducing waste.

The Plastics Industry Association has previously lobbied for states to prohibit banning plastic bag usage and imposing restrictions on other plastics across the country. "We withdrew earlier this year as a result of positions the organization was taking that were not fully consistent with our commitments and goals," a Coca-Cola spokesperson said.

"This is unfortunate—consumer brands are integral to making sustainability commitments into realities, by working with their suppliers to make lasting change," Long told"For example, our members work together to align their efforts to put recycling and sustainability at the forefront of their businesses.
