Unlike other drivers, Straus first sat behind the wheel of a racecar at the age of thirteen. At 16 years old, she entered into her first professional race without ever competing in any non-professional or club-racing events. Straus competed as North America’s only teenage female professional sportscar racer and earned Rookie of the Year for the season. Then in 2018, she deferred her studies at Harvard University to compete for a full World Challenge season in a BMW.
Everything changed for Straus once she realized that she had the opportunity to build a program around introducing young girls to mentors and helping them navigate their lives. “My racing goals are very different from the average racecar driver in the sense that I'm not necessarily looking to race in Indy Car or Formula E or at a specific racetrack,” she continues to explain.
Never give up. It sounds cliché; however, it matters. Some goals take longer to achieve than others. If you feel strongly about something, keep putting one foot in front of the other; patience will eventually pay off.
