Kubra Mohammed, from the Bo-Kaap, in Cape Town, who has been selling koesisters for the past 21 years, explains why people from the Cape like the delicacy as a Sunday morning breakfast. “It comes from our forefathers, that said have a koesister because you are going to have a big meal, because they used to cook two to three different dishes for lunch time, and that is where it comes from and it still is today.”

The koesister is an iconic treat synonymous with Cape Town. With World Koesister Day on 1 September we’d like to know about your favourite koesister spot and we’ll feature the best ones on our website.
