A plan to replace Sydney's new years fireworks with a drone show has created waves around the globe | carriefellner

that the City of Sydney is canvassing a plan to launch hundreds of drones into the sky in place of the fireworks. The story made waves worldwide, with the eyes of around one billion people watching on New Year's Eve as Sydney’s fireworks extravaganza is beamed across the globe.

Coronavirus has dealt an additional blow to the industry in recent weeks as events for Chinese Lunar New Year were cancelled or postponed. The association has taken exception to some of the arguments in Liberal councillor Craig Chung’s motion, calling on the City of Sydney to investigate the drone show option.“Drone shows are gradually becoming more common as alternatives to fireworks displays due to their minimal noise and environmental disruption,” Cr Chung wrote.

But Mr McGill said the comparison was misleading because the lion’s share of Sydney’s new year’s budget is spent on associated costs like crowd control and barges in the harbour.

carriefellner Great idea

carriefellner If the drones are to support local Australian industry and talent, I don't see any issue in giving this a go.

carriefellner Sydney's NY Fireworks is tourism marketing. The take home message is 'one billion people watching on New Year's Eve as Sydney’s fireworks extravaganza' They are no longer for the residence Sydney. Its international marketing where the local people ignored.

saugat_c carriefellner Good article. Stick with fireworks for NYE for now. Test out drones on other occasions.

carriefellner How stupid seriously

carriefellner The Foti family have done a stellar job for years putting Sydney on the global ‘must see’ list at NYE. If it aint broke, why fix it.

carriefellner But 'fireworks' and 'bushfire' both have word 'fire' in them and 'bushfire' bad🤤

carriefellner The Chinese crying about it?
