The Massachusetts Democrat said health care workers were in 'desperate need' of medical materials amid nationwide shortages.

Massachusetts Representative Joe Kennedy III has accused President Donald Trump of using the Defense Production Act to penalize a company instead of protecting American health care workers.

He also said that he had been involved with efforts to"track down" medical equipment such as masks as shortages were reported across the United States. Joe Kennedy III said U.S. medical staff were in"desperate need" of masks and other healthcare equipment amid the coronavirus pandemic.Under shelter-in-place orders, people are required to stay in their homes as much as possible, with exceptions permitted for essential activities.

"He's using the Defense Production Act to try to penalize a company, rather than trying to protect our country and our health care workers that are in desperate need of materials," he added.
