IRHA has described the situation regarding rising fuel prices as an national crisis that needs urgent attention

IRHA President Eugene Drennan four proposals were put to the minister this morning.

"We brought home to the minister the times we are in ... this is war time", he said, adding that"hauliers cannot keep abreast of the rising cost of fuel".He said supports"were needed yesterday, not tomorrow". IRHA Vice President Paul Jackman said nearly"every haulier on the road today is subsiding the company it's working for because they're doing it at a loss".On the increase in oil and gas prices, the Taoiseach said the ultimate security of supply into the future will be on renewables.

Speaking on Newstalk this morning, Micheál Martin said gas is important and will always be a back-up. "We just have to double down on renewables while also maintaining gas generation as a significant back-up and transitional future, and that is the future over the next 30 to 40 years," he said.
