The Competition Bureau Canada has argued that the merger of the two telecommunications companies would lessen competition in the telecom market, trigger higher prices and lead to poor service.
However, in a summary of its decision released Thursday, the Tribunal said the merger would not result in materially higher prices. It said the deal, which includes the sale of Shaw-owned Freedom Mobile to Quebecor-owned Videotron Ltd., would not likely prevent or lessen competition substantially. The Competition Bureau Canada said it was very disappointed with the Tribunal's decision.
"I am very disappointed that the Tribunal is dismissing our application to block the merger between Rogers and Shaw,". "We are carefully considering our next steps." The deal's current closing date is Saturday, though the parties have the option to extend through to the end of January if needed.
Corporate corruption and price gouging continues to fester across Canada as limp anti-trust laws are ignored. This is Lib-Con Canada.
FOLLOW THE MONEY!!!! It's not about what's good for the country, it's always been about the money.
There’s no competition. Who was their competition?
. . simple . . grease the wheels in Quebec (Québecor) . . keep ‘petit chien de compagnie’ François-Philippe Champagne on message . . do the deal and the West be damned . .
Thank God for Elon Musk's Starlink. Time to get rid our cable internet. Turns out SL is cheaper & far more reliable. And since Elon is rolling out his own sat phones in combination with the sat internet, why would you not go with this system.🤔
Seems like an improbably stupid ruling.
Open the market to Americans carriers

Of course its not enough that we pay highest cel rates in the world- so instead of allowing more providers in, we are narrowing the competition further!!! Only in Canada🤬🤬
