Australia's peak export tourism body says the country's bushfire crisis will see the tourism sector suffer by at least $4.5 billion by the year's end.

'We are worried about the contagion'

An image of the Grose Valley fire in the Blue Mountains area of Lithgow and Blackheath, New South Wales, issued on 9 January 2020.Images of burnt-out towns, people huddled on beaches to escape huge flames, dead wildlife and thick smoke hanging over major cities have been beamed around the world. Accommodation booking cancellations in non-fire zones have reached upwards of 60 per cent, while in fire-affected areas there were no tourists at all, Westaway said. Many destinations rely heavily on domestic tourism, as well as international visitors.

Birmingham said he is seeking firsthand feedback from tourism bosses after meeting with them on Thursday to devise a strategy to reassure visitors that many tourism destinations are untainted by fires.Simon Westaway said the meetings convened by the federal government have been productive, but added the follow-through will be critical.

Guess whose input we do not need for any advertising?

Donvoegt Tourism should consider including our unique animals as a drawcard - international interest in koalas and other widlife case in point. PtMacquarie Koala Ark great project to help replenish/save them from extinction.

Is it still worth selling our country’s future for a few coal jobs and the logging industry ScottFromMarketing? A couple more years of Australia go up in flames and coal is all we will have left, unless that burns too.

OH NO! WHATEVER WILL SCOTT AND JOSH DO? (ACTUAL ANSWER - THEY’LL RAID ALL OF YOUR FAVOURITE SERVICES TO MEET THEIR DELUSIONAL PROJECTED SURPLUS AND YOU’LL BE FUCKED. AGAIN.)

But as long as the coal industry does well, right ScottMorrisonMP ? 😤

Reckon ScottyfromMarketing could fix it!

Despite matesong 😂

PM spin is death to tourism. The real cost is trillions long term as we clear and dry and mine and wipe out our internationally important mega diverse biota. This government is antibiotic , exploitative and poorly advised.

Just don’t let ScottyfromMarketing anywhere near the new tourism promotion program. auspol

I just booked to come to Melbourne in March. Wasn't planning to. So yeah.

bkbaguley by 4.5 billion ----- so many jobs, businesses and food producing farms devastated A hell of a lot more jobs by far than 10 coalmines would have employed in Qld Talk about an incompetent and negligent Government but worse a Nat Party being complicit in rural devastation

Fire season will end by March/April. The bushfires have made Australia known in every corner of the earth. People will flock to see Koalas, bush towns, give them love and support. Don’t spend money promoting Australia. The urgency is in rebuilding fire ravaged towns. ❤️🇦🇺

Yeah but the coal miners still have their jobs so it's all fine.

Another winning tourism strategy by ScottyFromMarketing ...

The ClimateCrisis is also an economic crisis. auspol

BrettMasonNews So how much of the money that has been raised will go into admin costs for the roll out of these programs?

It certainly is a disaster. But at least now the discussions in the media seem to be more about fuel reduction, not necessarily burning. CC action is still important but that will not take effect for decades if not centuries. We need a quick fix, hopefully immediately.

Can't have your cake and eat it. If you don't look after what makes Australia great then you can't expect people to ce here to see damaged goods. Sack LiarFromTheShire basically.

Sounds like more hysterical bullshit.

Fear merchants like and ABCaustralia have hammered eastern states fires into global consciousness and given the impression that literally the entire country is on fire. Purely for political opportunism and bitterness over election results. Your organizations are scum

ScottMorrisonMP has the penny dropped yet?

That's because you the media have lead the world do believe that the whole of Australia is burning, of which of c ause it isn't .. there's plenty of Australis to see that isn't afected but you guys certainly won't let reality get in the way of a story!!

Now he cares because he is starting to be able to equate the loss in terms of money.

she'll be right, mate.......😎
