Organisers say the cancellation of the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic is set to have a devastating impact on the economy of Oudtshoorn.
Freelance cameraman Jacques Groenewald says international events such as the US Masters Golf Tournament have also cancelled. Organisers of the annual National Arts Festival in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape says it is engaging with the event’s sponsors to go virtual this year. Festival CEO, Monica Newtown says it is a pro-active and radical response to the current situation which puts artists in a dire situation as livelihoods are at stake.
