. We expect to see major telehealth vendors unveil longer lists of telehealth offerings for niche segments of healthcare moving forward, considering consumers will be unable to continue putting off care visits as the pandemic continues on.
But telehealth likely isn't a panacea for primary care practices' financial woes — and we expect to see an uptick in closures and far fewer disruptors enter the fray. US consumers' ability and willingness to swap in-person primary care for telehealth isn't guaranteed. Even though virtual channels pave the way for providers to retain business, 65% of clinicians say that their patients are unable to access telehealth services due to a lack of internet or computer accessibility, per PCC's survey.
Considering the instability of the primary care space, we expect to see fewer entrants crop up, and we think buzzy primary care upstarts could be staring down hard times. Not many startups have dug into the deeply entrenched primary care space due to difficulties that come with winning over customers accustomed to traditional care. And because of the coronavirus' unclear trajectory and severity, we don't think we'll see any entrants debuting any time soon.
