ICYMI: To accelerate user acquisition efforts, Jio's new Zoom competitor JioMeet doesn't have any paid tiers

, and now Jio — are several of the world's largest companies, and can therefore choose to not monetize their platforms if doing so would yield greater payoffs in the future.

Along those lines, Jio executives stated in a conference call earlier this year that JioMeet could help the company expand into virtual learning and telehealth, TechCrunch. This helps explain why JioMeet doesn't even offer a paid tier, as charging customers for the service would slow user acquisition efforts: If Jio controls a widely used video conferencing platform, it can then more profitably expand the range of services offered through that platform.
