Nasdaq components including Nikola, Overstock and Etsy were among the day's best-performing stocks, adding 18%, 15% and 8%, respectively. Stocks shed early morning gains as hopes for a new stimulus deal waned throughout the day; as of market close on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin were in negotiations.
