We don’t feel any urgency to show the ready-to-wear on a runway, but I do think that people being able to experience the clothes and engage with the fantasy of Schiaparelli and everything that they love about the couture in a way that feels easy and sort of friendly is incredibly rewarding. During COVID, a lot of people felt like we were creating collections and releasing them into a void. Coming to New York and opening the Bergdorf’s space really feels like that’s over.
Right, and I never lose sleep about my job. I never go to bed tossing and turning and thinking, “Are people going to like? Is this right for the house?” I really don’t. I lose sleep about love. I lose sleep about my relationship with my mom. I lose sleep about other things, but when it comes to work and specifically the connection that I have with her, it has felt really natural. I’m working in her salons in the Place Vendôme, I feel her blessing on what my contribution is.
But Paris itself... I find it to be lonely almost in the best way possible. My most productive times to work are on the plane in the air, when I’m jet lagged and I wake up at 4 a.m. and work when everyone else is asleep, or on the flip side, when I’m up really late and everyone else has gone to sleep. I love this feeling of working while everyone else is not working.
