Cherisse Jamison, professionally known as Aye Yo Kells, a former media personality and a founder of The Jamison Agency, a boutique PR firm, built her company while homeless and surviving domestic abuse.

Fast forward to 2019. Charlotte, North Carolina, hosted the NBA All-Star game. A gentleman reached out to her on Instagram, explaining that his client, Kalysha, would be in town for the festivities and needed someone to assist her with the press. Jamison jumped at the opportunity to work in the PR world again. That experience launched her career. She continued working her 9-to-5 while building out her agency at night.

Then the pandemic hit. Many of her clients put publicity on hold, considering they couldn’t tour or film shows. She quickly had to figure out how to sustain herself. So she expanded her clientele reach to entrepreneurs and corporations, offering them a 360 approach to marketing and branding, not just publicity.

Be open to the opportunity, whether big or small. You never know what experience will catapult you to where you want to be or where you want to work.
