The private sector needs to do more to convince the world it’s a force for good, according to the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce John Denton.

– in helping found the Business 20, or B20, to match the G20. Mr Denton was also on the board of the Business Council of Australia and co-authored the Australia in the Asian Century white paper with Ken Henry.“The economic hypothesis [of the white paper] still stands that China is the dominant economy in the region and continues to be so ... you don’t deal with China by ignoring it. We also do have agency here, how do we engage in a way without sacrificing our values?” he asked.

He said the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, had recently invitedthe ICC to be part of the global crisis response group on food, energy and finance, along with the World Bank, IMF and UN agencies. “That’s the first time they have ever structurally brought the private sector into a response,” Mr Denton said.

“Our purpose is to enable business worldwide to secure peace, prosperity and opportunity for all, and you can hear the echos of the First World War coming through there,” he said.

A pity he's used the term 'convince', which to a lot of corporate concerns would simply translate to 'marketing' & employing further deceptive practice, rather than transparent acts towards responsible stewardship of public resources & structures towards building ethical wealth?
