The story behind Panther Island stretches back to 1949. Once completed, the district is expected to have enormous benefits for the city.

The work surrounding Panther Island is two separate projects. One is the Central City Flood Control Project, which includes rerouting a section of the Trinity River and modifying a large park on the city’s east side to manage flood events better. The other is the Panther Island project, which includes economic development strategies for the district.

Here’s a look at how the project got to this point and what’s next for Panther Island. The timeline is based on information provided by the Tarrant Regional Water District and previous reporting. Stakeholders created the Trinity River Master Plan, designed to provide flood protection, recreation, scenic beauty and accessibility to the public. Over 200 meetings were held to receive public feedback.

Congress authorized the Corps to conduct a study to find a technically sound and environmentally acceptable solution. The Fort Worth City Council adopted form-based zoning and development standards for Panther Island, which rezoned the entire district to mixed-use. The development standards were created to foster an urban, dense, sustainable waterfront environment. At the city's request, the U.S.

The area around Coyote Drive In, Panther Island Brewery, Paddock Viaduct Bridge, and the old La Grave Field is already one of my favorites. I hope they do justice to its weird decayed glory.
