In a big blow to health insurance in the U.S., a federal judge has ruled that insurers no longer have to pay for preventive care services like cancer and heart disease screenings.

The ruling comes as a result of a lawsuit brought by a group of insurers who argued that the Affordable Care Act exceeded its authority by requiring them to cover certain preventative care services without being able to charge co-payments or deductibles.

However, the recent ruling by U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor of the Northern District of Texas has effectively invalidated this provision of the ACA. If insurance companies weren’t required to cover preventive care services, patients might be less likely to get the screenings and tests that could catch these health problems early.“The President is glad to see the Department of Justice is appealing the judge’s decision, which blocks a key provision of the Affordable Care Act that has ensured free access to preventive health care for 150 million Americans,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated.

“The Administration will continue to fight to improve health care and make it more affordable for hard-working families, even in the face of attacks from special interests.” The ruling is also likely to face legal challenges in the coming months. Several states and healthcare advocacy groups have already said they will appeal the decision. They say that the Affordable Care Act’s requirement that insurers cover preventive care services is a crucial part of the law’s goal to make more people eligible for health insurance.

Have we just given up on trying to be a more civilized nation?

It’s a boon for insurance.

Imagine live in a country where INSURERS - not your medical team - decide on your healthcare. Imagine living in a country where you have to pay middlemen - who serve no purpose than to make money for shareholders - to get any healthcare.

I spend more in premiums, co-pays, deductibles, etc. than the insurance makes in payments. I get 2 'wellness visits' to my doctor without a co-pay. They pay for the $10 flu shot. They don't cover anything else preventative. Exactly how are they struggling again?

Surprise, suprise, reed again.

I think people are going to ditch insurance eventually. What's the value? The companies refuse to pay for basic coverage that saves lives, so what is the point?

Greed has long been a part of our healthcare system. This is going to kill a lot of people needlessly.

Noticing a pattern with northern district of texas judges last few days. O'connor is a bush appointee, Kacsmaryk appointed by a talking yam.

Forced birthers supporting djt at their own peril. Actual living, breathing people will suffer.

“Texas Judge” is the new “ Florida Man.”

Let’s go down the checklist: NRA: Kill kids blame the side doors ✅ Public Utilities: F’ck your clean drinking, cooking, bathing water and your clean energy ✅ Insurance companies: Whoever the bullets miss we’ll kill them through the pain and suffering of disease ✅

WTF? ✌️ Marci

Will my premiums go down?😒

nching0 another Texas judge in the pocket of corporations and with zero medical credentials..

nching0 what you mean is 'a big blow to people and healthcare' .. because it's not a blow to insurance companies..

nching0 so absurd.. preventive care is the only care worth having.. the only care that reduces healthcare costs overall.. insurance company lobbyists win this one for the insurance companies..

Always a Texas judge 🤦🏻‍♀️

😳😩

Fukin ridiculous

Elections have consequences: federal judge appointments that change lives forever.
