Gauteng Legislature up for grabs sabcnews saelections2019

In 2014 the ANC won Gauteng province with 54% of the vote which was a significant decline from the 64% the party won in 2009.

Once again, the ANC’s support has shrunk considerably and is now projected to fall below 50%. The power balance has shifted dramatically, opening the possibility for a coalition-led ANC government, or an opposition coalition led by the DA, with the EFF and all the smaller parties. It is possible, for the first time since 1994, that the important economic hub of Gauteng is wrestled from the ANC. However, this will not necessarily be made possible by a growth of the main opposition party the DA, but rather due to growth of the more radical leftist EFF and the smaller conservative, right Freedom Front Plus, making for an interesting potential coalition if the smaller opposition parties all decide to join forces.
