The Finance 202: Farmers are bracing for more tariff pain. But they're sticking with Trump -- for now

But GOP lawmakers are making no attempt to limit Trump’s power to level new tariffs on China.

Three Senate Democratic incumbents — Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, and Claire McCaskill of Missouri — allin farm country, despite trying to tie their challengers to the local fallout from Trump’s trade offensive. Shares of some of the nation’s largest drug makers fell on Monday after 44 states joined together in a lawsuit against 20 manufacturers, alleging the companies conspired to inflate prices and reduce competition, MarketWatch’s Sarah Toy: “Shares of Teva were down 16% on Monday, while Mylan stock fell 10%. Shares of Novartis declined 1.7% and Pfizer shares inched down 0.5%.”

Stupid farmers you deserve your pain we have to pay and the slogan of that fake 45 trump make America pay again it’s coming through farmers deserve everything they get we have to pay for it but they deserve everything they get following pink pig Trump

If the indeed stick with Trump, they don’t deserve any help. Help thyself by standing up against him and lack of any policy experience.

Once you commit to a religion you don’t just turn your back on it when times get tough.

And continuing the tradition of the Working Class voting against their own interests. At some point you stop feeling sorry for them. ImpotentPOTUS

It should be 2021, oh my brothers of the plough, before you realize u ben had.

Of course farmers are sticking with Trump, Trumps buying their votes with farm subsidies, which is a form Socialism.

Crazy! I don’t get it?

We will never leave! President Trump has made America Great Again! 🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸

Big mistake

They consistently vote against there best interests and send their very hard earned money to the upper .1% of the nation. They otherwise are the repository of common sense - I don’t understand hiw they with their values and morality can support a stupid con artist.

Travelers are bracing for a large iceberg. But they’re sticking with the Titanic- for now.

He keeps throwing money at them.

Then they deserve everything they get. Or should i say what they don't get.

Well because trump is buying their produce with our tax money. Socialism at its best

Farmers ur the definition of insanity

Because Trump is handing them welfare.

SMH. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This headline has been run for eighteen months now. Here is the reality: many farmers would rather support realDonaldTrump’s social issues than feed their families. They have voted against their own self-interest for years.

Because farmers had a great year in 2018 and the uneducated Dem voters don't realize tariffs are helping farmers, not hurting them.

Would they stick by him if they didn't get farmer welfare?

I thought farming required intelligence? Apparently the United States has some of the dumbest farmers on the planet.

CNN you people need to compare notes. Which is it. says their with him for now.

NO WELFARE FOR THE FARMERS!

No we are not. So tired of this dialogue. Ask me. farmer nevertrump

ECONOMIC ANXIETY MY ASS. Deplorables

Fools listening to the con man. ImpeachDonaldTrump

Trump Announces New Subsidies: On the heels of his subsidies for farmers suffering from his trade war, Trump says we will subsidize: Owners of condos in Trump properties who can't sell units in 'those buildings.' 'Someone has to pay for my mistakes.'

Hope the farmers enjoy their special brand of socialism sucking on that government teat while tariffs wreak havoc in the marketplace.

Cant fix rural bigotry

Stupidity knows no limits

If they still stick with trump, then thoughts and prayers.

Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. The farmers remind me of a 3Card Monte sucker believing that they’ll eventually win.

They love the bail outs… Don’t have to work, take a trip… Buy a new tractor… Why would they not stick with Trump? Look how many times he went bankrupt… and paid no taxes for 8 years... they are fine...

Yeah they are. Because they know the outcome benefits them

Heads in the ground and hoping a potato will grow out of their collective butts!

Trump is causing the pain because he doesn't know what he is doing. Me to farmers, there is no plan. This is it.

So he is destroying their livelihood and basically destroying any chance of future sales by having China find new suppliers but they still stand with him? Why should all other taxpayers bail them?

They sure don’t mind socialist programs when it benefits them.

Djt’s socialism will help farmers somewhat-hence they r still sticking w/him. What abt everyone else affected up / downstream Feed cos , fertilizers, farm equipment, rr, barge lines , river &export elevators, Fumigation cos, etc? Whatcha going to do for them? POTUS

Who wouldn’t stick with all that free welfare $$$ ?

Another day, another 'puff piece' on how 'a certain class of Americans' (among ALL Americans injured by the GOP Tariffs) are (wait for it) 'sticking with Trump.' Tell us, 'why are there no articles ever' about the 'other side of this coin,' i.e., Trump/GOP voters who flipped?

Fine -- they want to stand by the man who is destroying them, that's their prerogative. But this should mark the end of the 'woebegone American farmer' journalism genre. People who vote against their own self-interest should not be romanticized.

They should be cut them off from the Trump's socialist teat.

The only hope the farmers have is if Trump leaves office. They might as well take their farm and give it to the bank now because they are eventually going to take it anyway. Dems should block any further assistance they got one bail out already!

They should stick with Trump. The benefits they are going to receive from this deal is going to make sure they make money, and will sustain their industry for years to come.

Farmers have to plan their use of the land for years ahead to be successful. They have strategic visions that most of the responders in this thread severily lack.

Of course they are. They’re waiting for that welfare/socialism check that they criticize others for, but they certainly don’t mind it when the welfare check has their name on it.

They are on a sinking ship...good luck...

Reminiscent of the Jews in Nazi Germany who thought that Hitler was a 'phase' and that the 'good' people of Germany would prevail. People are sheep. A dog could lead them.

Trump does NOT understand how tariffs work. TrumpIsAMoron

Then they deserve to hurt. People were warned. Repeatedly. They didn’t care until it impacted them.

Don't be too sure about that.Trump has been know to change his mind every now and then !!!

So cute. You farmers think POSPussyGrabber gives a sh!t about you. Never did. Never will. And as your farms fail and your families starve, ask if Ivanka has to give back the free patents and copyrights Xi gave her in 2017 just after inauguration. China TradeWars Tariffs

Only due to bailouts

They deserve every indignity they’re going to suffer.

I guess welfare isn't a bad thing when it comes from trump and the GOP....

He just paid for loyalty and didn’t ask anyone like he’s a one man band🤦‍♂️🤦🏼‍♀️💋
