Companies of equal values that want to improve their competitive position on the market through an company merger need a winner and a loser.
That's the French for you. If they aren't in the driving seat, forget it.
This cycle could yet be remembered for the irrational confidence of governments and failure to see the writing on the wall for their great industrial champions.

This sounds like an episode of Shark Tank, where they catch up with the people that didn’t get a deal or didn’t go through with a deal but then they made a name for themselves by using Shark Tank as a marketing tool. The oil companies are finding new ways to keep us hooked.
