ANALYSIS: This Budget is big, loud and splashy — but don't be fooled by the zeroes

You'll recall Season One of this heart-pounding reality series, in which a former tourism executive and a youngish ex-tennis pro are handed the fiscal reins of a mid-range global economy, with the clock ticking down to an election their party is cordially expected to lose.

While the 2014 Budget kicked young people off Newstart, for example, this one pays half their wage to any business prepared to hire them. It's an incredibly good Budget if you’re running a business, including a business that's been making a loss. You can carry-back those losses and claim them against profits you made two years ago! .

You can pop out and buy something for the business and the Government will let you claim the FULL COST of that item. This will cost the Budget an utterly extraordinary $26.7 billion and — says Josh Frydenberg — will be a "game changer".

These caricatures have way too much hair...

Billions upon billions in tax cuts, tax breaks, free cheques and a debt figure about four times what it was back when Joe Hockey declared a 'budget emergency',

'Stimulus will come only from the wealthy' - delivered with all the passion of a bar mitzvah🙄

endless handouts for businesses, even the failed ones

This budget lacks imagination and foresight, and only has a rear-vision view of a hoped for economic rebound. That won't do. Tomorrow's world will not be like this one now, and hundreds of billions of dollars is being unacceptably wasted in attempting to resurrect the past.

Of course had this budget been brought down by Labor, theirABC's left wing sycophants would have hailed it akin to Moses parting the Red Sea & leading captive Israelites to the Promised Land. Shameless partisans. On our $1.1Billion a year.

Seems to be lots of people complaining that there should be more in it for them Hey I wouldn’t like their job It seems to a difference of beliefs liberals believe in rewarding endeavour believing success will flow through to all sectors Labor supports the underdog empowering them

🙏 No surprise here

We’ve all been invited to a liberal party banquet but all we peasants get are the crumbs.

Frydenberg is bald yo

Annabel Crab - Leader of the Opposition

This is height of satire coming from an ABC staffer with her guaranteed job and 2% pay rise 🤦‍♂️ Budget2021 auspol

This budget will cost much more as most of the $$ are borrowed

We need liquidity investment and a plan of attack. Does Australia want to be the new Saudi Arabia of energy. Harness it. Make them come here and open up here. Invest in R&D Make them think we are the Vegas of energy and take control of our resources.

Ashame you couldn’t write a piece with such zest about Daniel Andrews Victorian Government failed hotel quarantine program which has contributed immensely to the deficit.

I see the ABC newscaster is so pro-labor she forget we are in a global pandemic. What a stupid cow seriously.

Oh, I know there will be zero in it for me.

It’s just a shame that 1 billion in savings wasn’t removed from the ABC. Probably the only error of judgement from Josh all night.

Losers. Young people, pensioners and older/long time employees. Winners Business and employers

R U OK ABC ?.

No substance just smoke and mirrors From an incompetent Treasurer

I'm rarely fooled by Josh Frydenberg.

I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. Living in Melbourne, we seem so detached from the rest of the country right now.

Housing policy must be fixed now, we do not want phantom buyers grabbing our residential homes. We need our homes for citizens who buy and live in these homes. Stop these Hoarders. Housing is like Toilet rolls, our fundamental need

One key word - CONFIDENCE. Not a lot there currently.

You seemed to love the extra zeros the Government gave you on your pay you just voted for during a pandemic. So what’s good for the goose isn’t good for the gander It seems. Money for you lot but no one else, hey?

Could u please ask Treasurer how is he going to fix housing policy, will he stop Hoarders such as trust, companies, property group companies, and foreign investors grabbing our residential homes. Our residential homes are for our genuine first homebuyers.

Perhaps they should take 6 zeros off the budget they give you frauds. DefundtheABC

Why, Josh was with his $60b margin for error ...
