“I’ve dreamed of going to space my whole life, and am excited about turning that dream into reality.' Here are business mogul and soon-to-be spaceman Richard Branson’s favorite things:

In recent years, Richard Branson’s gaze has increasingly been focused upwards. On July 11, a week before his 71st birthday, the British business mogul will join five others on a test flight to the edge of space, as his company Virgin Galactic competes to be the first commercial spacecraft service.

The spacecraft, which is scheduled to be launched from a Virgin Galactic carrier plane at an altitude of around 50,000 feet, will fly to the boundary of space, where the crew will experience several minutes of weightlessness before beginning a descent back to Earth. Two additional test flights are planned before Virgin aims to offer commercial service at some point in 2022.

After the monumental damage caused by Hurricane Irma in 2017, Branson and his team rebuilt with sustainability in mind. Visitors today will encounter three giant wind turbines, which, in combination with the island’s new solar farm, enable it to run on up to 100% renewable energy. Something I do to relax is… having dinner with my wonderful wife, Joan. I met her 45 years ago at The Manor, the recording studio we built for Virgin Records. I owe so much to her, she’s a constant source of wisdom and has always been there for me through thick and thin. Joan has been by my side for every major decision I’ve made, and our two children, Sam and Holly, are a credit to her. Spending time with Joan after a busy day is my favorite thing to do.

Over the past year, I’ve stayed sane by… now, more than ever, rest is an important business tool. I’ve learned that sometimes, taking time out is just as productive as time spent working. When we’re overwhelmed, our productivity, and more importantly, happiness, takes a hit, which affects our judgment. This past year, I’ve encouraged my team to take regular downtime and make time for exercise if they can. I often have some of my best thinking time when cycling, kiting, or playing tennis.

A passion of mine that few people know about is… I’ve been expanding my workout routine and just lately I’ve got into skipping!
