Lazer Technologies and TribalScale have announced that hackathons held over the Thanksgiving long weekend successfully reproduced clones of the app

that total spending on creating and maintaining the ArriveCan app is on pace to exceed $54-million this year, which is more than double what the government had recently said was spent.

“Having built over 100 different apps at Lazer for some of the most exciting companies in the world, it was shocking for us to see the total amount of capital that was spent to design, create, launch, and maintain the ArriveCan app,” said Lazer co-founder Zain Manji in an“We understand that building technology at a federal level for the entire country and for such crucial areas is no easy task - especially in a successful and seamless manner with so many different stakeholders involved.

“Of course we know that an app like ArriveCan cannot actually be taken from idea to release in a weekend. However, we hope this demonstrates that there are extremely talented engineers, designers, product managers, and consultants out there who are capable of delivering outstanding work in an efficient manner.

“For two days of work, it looks great so far,” said Mr. Hyatt, who was not involved in the hackathon but was among the Canadian tech leaders who spoke out against the government’s $54-million price tag. He said there would still be additional “heavy lifting” required for such an app to be ready to launch by the government. “The front end app is pretty straight forward,” he said.

Lies. More American right wing trash

Who is paying for this..

I just painted the Mona Lisa using paint by numbers!!

jenniferelle_ Imagine if the Canadian government actually cared about our health. 54 million would go a long way.

Not for the government though? Especially with tax payers money. 😇😅😂🤓

And if they don't do their due diligence and someone's data gets leaked they have to deal with billions in court costs and add fuel to the crazies and their conspiracy theories. As someone from the private sector, I know full what happens when you go with the lowest bid.

ZainManji This is absolute sensationalism at its best and irresponsible reporting. Yes, $54 million is no doubt way too high, but to imply it could be built in a weekend from scratch is ludicrous. They didn’t do any design, backend work, security testing, user testing…….

Massive corruption.

Why? To spread anti democracy propaganda for global oil and gas interests? Is that where they make their $$?

It actually is a lot easier to copy a platform to create it from scratch.

Stop the presses! Truturd wasted money?😮

I'm sure it was integrated at every level of government like the arrive canada app was. Like making a LED blinker hooked up to a timer to show how cheap traffic lights are when you ignore the whole 'hooked up to the city's traffic grid' aspect.

Politicians do not become multi-millionaires on their salaries.

BraydenSchnur Curious why you’re RT-ing this BraydenSchnur.

GC Strategies contract history shows they developed and created the ArriveCAN app for $9.3 million.

Did anybody hear even once 'taxpayer' word from JustinTrudeau 's mouth. He is giving taxpayers money away to his friends and allies , no transparency and accountability in liberal government...

I wonder how much of JT family got paid

We need a National Independent inquiry with power to examine all aspects of Covid, the medical system and financial transactions at all government levels. To better prepare for next time there a virus and to catch all wrong doings .

Could ArriveCan be the biggest scandal yet for the Liberals TrudeauMustGo TrudeauDestroyingCanada

Which LPC insiders did the looting? Where did the stolen money flow to, was it the ex-liberal MP in Quebec who stole the $150 for unapproved ventilators? Have you guys found out which company gave Jerry Diaz the $50k bribe? Pretend it's a CPC PMO and do some digging.

4 millions is fair price.

All levels of govt are out of control. They keep growing like a germ. No accountability, no focus on efficiency. More red tape = more barriers to get anything done in order to justify their existence, non-value added compensation & gold plated pensions. Why? Because we let them.

RobertFife

I suppose we are sure that these two companies replicated the official app exactly - oh, but wait. Wouldn't the real one be propriety? Might the actual developers have a say? Or their lawyers? In any case, Ford and Kenny alone disappeared over $8B in covid transfers ... cdnpoli

Have any of your journalists dug far enough to find out the exact person that awarded the $54 million contract in the first place? Hmmmm…maybe a story to piece together there. Kick back to a friends company etc. It’s called “investigative journalism”👍

Yet. Another. Money. Laundering. Scheme. By. Liberal. Government.

The ArriveCAN app fiasco screams for an audit by the Auditor General. 🚨OAG_BVG🚨 Why was the cost ridiculously high? On what basis were the contracts awarded? Why so many subcontractors? Who benefited and what are their connections to the government?

So... WHO THE F'CK GOT THE KICK BACKS

Was there an RFP or other tendering/bidding process here?

This nazi arrive can app and Turd boy can suck it .

Criminally high, like 1/4 million vs 54 millions. TrudeauMustGo

The first priority of Liberal government spending is to reward friends and donors. What's being procured is only of secondary consequence.

Rack it up! Hey Liberal lovers, how many more examples do you need of the wasteful practices of OUR money from this gov't? And they continue to lie about everything without accountability from the media or those in parliament, ie NDP.

Let's talk about Pheonix?

More Liberal corruption.

globepolitics At least ArriveCan worked. Take a look at the, still ongoing, cost of the Phoenix pay system.

Governments have far too much debt. We need to start being much more prudent with taxpayers capital. The sooner we do this the better as our debt may drown us over the long run. High debt with the rising rates means service cuts and tax increases so need to be better now.

Of course it was too high! Government is terrible at spending money. They overpay for everything and waste our tax money. Then they increase taxes. Enough is enough!

Also it was illegal bc pfizer has admitted the vaccine was never tested for transmission efficacy!! So there were no grounds to begin with!

Of course. That’s how the politicians make money 😂

Health-Tech company alleviates hospital wait timesA Canadian Health-Tech company called 'Medimap' is helping alleviate pressures at hospitals suffering from long wait times for patients. That’s not true, they’ve been good to use pre-pandemic to check in to walk in clinics and virtual doctors. Nowadays, the only thing I have been seeing is “no availability”. So not much help there
