The unions briefed the media on their next course of action over the longstanding public sector wage impasse. Public sector unions affiliated with The Congress of South African Trade Unions , the South African Federation of Trade Unions and the South African Police Union say they will also not take part in the fresh round of talks for the new financial year due to outstanding issues from last year.

National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union President, Mike Shingange says, “We will be demonstrating when the minister presents his Budget to ensure that the terrain we have entered into, where we are no longer engaging with the DPSA as our employer but we are engaging with Treasury.”
