Job openings snapped back in August and rose to 9.6 million, reflecting a strong appetite for labor in light of a steadily growing U.S. economy.

just a month after falling to a more than two-year low.

Job listings rebounded from a revised 8.9 million in July, the Labor Department said Tuesday. That was the lowest level in almost two and a half years. The number of job openings is seen as a sign of the health of the labor market and the broader U.S. economy. Economists polled by the Wall Street Journal had forecast job listings to total 8.8 million.

Job postings have dropped from a record 12 million last year, but they are still well above pre-pandemic levels.
