They crackdown on outside income. But If I’m not paying for it, I don’t care what they earn. More power to them, if they have the drive and ability to pull it in

I remember when Pat Kenny was on a million euro a year and Tubs was earning €750,000. It was mad money - but the issue was not how much they were earning, it was who was paying for it.

If it’s in their free time and not affecting their weekly work commitments, what’s the problem? Let them off to make their money. They can do promotions and sponsorship and be brand ambassadors every free hour they have, if they want. It’s showbiz, not the civil service. This kind of earning power is what a talented presenter has.

That’s grand for now - but how long will it last? Lucrative work out there for younger presenters with star quality is a reality of media now. It’ll be hard for 2FM to hang on to high-value individuals under Director General Kevin Bakhurst’s regime, an over-correction in the wake of the RTE scandal last Summer.

Those who know their worth will walk, if they’re not being paid enough. What’s the alternative? Grow older in youth station 2FM, losing money until station boss Dan Healy axes you.Just to re-cap, the exodus of the top names from 2FM has been linked to the DG’s new registers of interests, gifts and external activities.
