Alaska Airlines News

Hawaiian Air,Merger,Alaska

Alaska Airlines completed its acquisition of Hawaiian Air on Wednesday, just one day after the federal government cleared the way of major regulatory obstacles.

As customers learned that the mergers means they’ll soon be able to transfer their miles between their Hawaiian Miles account and Mileage Plan.According to Alaska Airlines, the deal worth roughly $1 billion will enable travelers to reach 141 destinations directly and over 1,200 destinations globally.

“The three magic words for frequent flyer in the 21st century are as follows: ‘Earn and burn,’” McMurren said. “That means hyperinflation is rampant in the unregulated shadow currency we call frequent flyer miles. Your miles are worth more today ... than they will be tomorrow. Mark my words; merger, no merger.”

Currently, the two airlines will continue operating as distinct brands with a goal of securing a single operating certificate with the Federal Aviation Administration .In terms of benefits, Alaska Airlines says both mileage plans will retain their full value and Alaska Lounge members will have access to locations when flying on Hawaiian Air.
