Ikea's US CEO answers our 3 biggest questions about the future of the furniture chain

Quiñones, who previously ran Ikea's division in the UK and Ireland, spoke about consumer preferences and e-commerce.

"What you will see in the stores is us investing in making sure that we have the best place in the world for getting inspired, when it comes to home furnishing and inspiration," Quiñones told Business Insider. "That's probably been the biggest focus in the last couple of months."With the rise of planning studios and the opening of the medium-sized store format in Queens, is the era of the big-box store over?: I still remember the first time I entered an Ikea store.

Of course e-commerce is growing and it's growing rapidly. We are investing a lot in the back end of the business, things that probably are not visible yet but will allow us to fulfill and to deliver in a very short period of time. We see that 80% of people will start their shopping at Ikea online. So the process of, let's say, exploring a new kitchen, it will start online.
