The top Republicans in the U.S. Congress displayed a united front on Friday in their drive to include coronavirus-related liability protections for businesses, saying such measures will be crucial to talks about future relief legislation.

“Senate and House Republicans agree these protections will be absolutely essential to future discussions surrounding recovery legislation,” they said. With half of all U.S. states forging ahead with their own strategies for easing restrictions on restaurants, retail and other businesses shuttered by the coronavirus crisis, business groups have been pushing for protection against COVID-19-related lawsuits for companies that follow health and safety guidelines.

But Democrats have dismissed Republican calls to include liability protections in legislation, saying such a move could jeopardize workers and patients.

Okay, but they should be allowed to legally go after these Republicans.

Forcing people back to work during a pandemic... Making them choose between illness/death or poverty/death... Now there's going to be no repercussions or financial responsibility for the widespread illness and death this is going to cause? I swear I'm living in 1789 France.

Heartless.

Yes, It’s important protect small businesses

Starting to really sound like we’re all acting in the live version of Atlas Shrugged 🤔

Showing there is no difference between parties. There is already vaccine immunities that their constituents care about and now they reveal themselves to be no better. We are on our own.

Yes, we need big business to be entirely free from the laws that the rest of us, apparently, have to follow.

The no liability republican death panel for Wall Street, get sick and get off unemployment, what a compassionate christian pro life position!

No, We do not need to make it legal to INTENTIONALLY endanger employees. Either by omission or commission. If a box falls off a shelf because the shelf is rickety, the business is liable, same here. If the employee is sick or dies because the business refused PPE. Same action.

Probably the majority are their donors that deserve it.

CYA the Republican corporate way

For fucksake.... corporations worried about being taken to court if they fail to protect their employees want to be protected. Don’t screw your employees and there won’t be an issue

So Republicans want impunity to spread Covid all around killing and maiming along the way...but back when it was HIV they put laws on the books charging one with murder for even possibly exposing someone to the virus. WHY ALL THE HYPOCRISY gop

An inhumane concept. Employers should not expect any employee to work when their life and that of others is at risk due to EMPLOYERS’ failure to provide PPE and safe work and break spaces!!! What Republicans espouse sounds like a chapter in one of Steinbeck’s novels.

Tyson says thank you for this. No reason they should be held liable for not protecting their employees right? Its the viruses fault.

These guys are blatenly corrupt.

As usual, the GOP are putting the people under the bus again. They'll have it so that business's that want to open even though it's not advisable will be able to fire employees when they refuse to return and will not be held responsible if the employees get the virus and die.

Immunity Heck, cut to the proverbial chase....Give them the Coronavirus.... That way they can do whatever China and Russia hope they do....

Gross

Republicans think labor is expendable.

So, if a business forces employees to return to work and they get the virus and die, the business would be immune from being sued.

Moscow Mitch and the Puppets care about Big Business only. The GOP only like citizens when they NEED votes for elections. Remember that.

This is the ultimate slap on the face They now want indentured servants?

Trump & GOP present the biggest danger to American Democracy than any other threat at any moment in American history.

Its nice that if you were actually Patrick Bateman you could start a business now, eschew any and all covid recommendations, and just watch people die on TV without a care in the world. And by nice I mean I would like these representatives on trial and their sins laid bare.

These people at gop have no shame, they know who they work for.

From the party of personal responsibility that takes no responsibility for any of their actions.

They know whats coming

Great! Closing and lockdown cause mental health issues and death! Reopen energy, the airports and airline industry and the American Economy now!!! With reasonable safety measures Let’s fly the friendly sky and get back to work asap!!!!

Corporate socialism

Unfuckenbelievable 🤡🤡🤷‍♀️🆘🆘

Get to work slaves

Nooooooooooo

Protect the deep pockets not the people who do the work. Well that’s typical for the GOP. Voters will have the last say.

No, dammit! No. There should be no such thing as immunity in this instance, because some people will have, rather obviously, been grossly negligent in handling this. WTF StupidBastards
