Students and recent grads of JohnsHopkins University School of Medicine share what it takes to get into one of the top 3 medical programs in the US

With a median GPA of 3.94 and median MCAT of 52, admission to Johns Hopkins is highly sought after. The school offers a four-year MD program, an MD/master's degree, and an MD/PhD track. The saw 6,016 applicants, 927 interviews granted, and just 256 acceptances.

He was able to show a through line of inclusive leadership with his work as a campus tour guide and as president of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers student chapter. "I chose to be completely honest about my shortcomings and failures without spinning or sugar-coating the story, and I explain what I learned from those failures," he said.

"It helped me develop into a more empathetic person, which is probably the number one quality admission officers look for in applicants," he said. "It also gave me an area to focus on while working within the Student Wellness Commission of the undergraduate student council."One of the biggest challenges for potential medical students is learning how to connect with people who are so different from them, class of 2022 JHU medical student Jennifer Franke said.

"Working in a busy restaurant," she said as an example, "helps you develop time management skills and the ability to connect personally with many people. These are skills that are so important as a doctor. At the end of the day, medicine is all about working for and helping patients." "Schools are looking for you to really weave a narrative around yourself and your passion for medicine, and how everything that you've done so far demonstrates that you're passionate about the medical field, and additionally, that being a physician is your path," he said.No matter your past experience, Bliamptis said that the admissions board will try to force you out of your comfort zone.

He added, "There was an interviewer who asked me what I knew about their subfield of medicine and research focus. I didn't, so I responded that my understanding was limited and I asked to hear more about it.

JohnsHopkins To be honest. It’s not about what it takes to get in. It’s about how good your going to be once you get in. If I’m on my deathbed, I wouldn’t rely on what it to took you to get in school, I would pray you learned something that others might have not.
