More than one year on since the start of the pandemic, businesses relying on tourists and international students continue to struggle with no end in sight. Here is what they want to see out of Tuesday's budget.

"In some streams, such as 'skilled independent' and 'state nomination', the number was cut by over 50 per cent over the past financial year, even 'employer sponsored' was cut by over a quarter," he said.

Flora Lu, who owns a cafe at the student centre, said there were days when she had zero customers during Victoria's lockdowns. Ms Lu said the cost of running her business had increased after the lockdowns, but people were getting similar or even less income. "What I'd like the federal government to realise is that small businesses are not going to be able to get the last 12 months back in Victoria," Mr Gocotta said."Just because we are now operating again, it doesn't mean that things are back to normal.

Funny how businesses that have fought against employee awards and conditions at every opportunity, suddenly become all Socialist when their market changes, and want workers taxes to prop up their business. Got to laugh, eh?

Migration agents also lose big in border closures but government still charge their high annual registration fees ? The fees should be reduced anyway and suspended during COVID ?
