Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian is cracking down again on public utility vehicles that are accommodating passengers beyond their seating capacity limit amid threats of COVID-19.

This came after a commuter sought the mayor’s help after riding a bus from the Valenzuela City Gateway Complex that accepted a number of passengers equivalent to its 100 percent seating capacity although the Transportation Department only allows 50 percent seating capacity in jeepneys and buses under the latest quarantine guidelines.“Bawal po yan ,” Gatchalian told the commuter in a Twitter post.

“Buses are under LTFRB …You may report to them to LTFRB social media pages,” he added. “Now if sa Valenzuela ang terminal ng mga yan, I can also sanction . Send me the body number, plate number.” In July last year, Gatchalian fined a bus company worth nearly half-a-million pesos after three of its buses were caught accepting passengers that exceeded its capacity limit.
