Employees of around 184,000 businesses in the city will have to be at least partially vaccinated by December 27.

's new employee vaccination mandate for almost all businesses in the city, businesses are scrambling to ensure their employees get their shots.

Affected employees must be able to prove that they have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with some exceptions being granted for religious or medical reasons. They will not be able to opt out of getting vaccinated with regular COVID-19 testing. Details on how businesses can report their employees' vaccination status will be available in the coming days.

"That creates a very short time period, which of course includes multiple holiday periods between the 15th and the 27th," he said."And it's not clear right now exactly what will be required for compliance." "I believe in individual rights and liberties, I really do. But I think there is a need—a community need—that is so much greater than any one of us at this point. That's what I'm acting on," he said during an interview Thursday on radio station Hot 97.
