Within minority groups, a difficult-to-pronounce name can reduce the likelihood of receiving a callback for a job by 50%, compared to someone in that group with an easier name to pronounce, research says

If you’re looking for a job, it helps to have a name that rolls off the tongue.

suggests that people with hard-to-pronounce names are about 10% less likely on average to land an academic job than those with easier-to-pronounce names. That’s because making just an extra bit of effort to figure out a tricky name can have an outsize impact on people’s decisions.

If you’re from Sri Lanka change your name to johnson. Having 34 letters in your name is impossible for your colleagues

I wonder how can this be true considering that the US is a nation of immigrants and people have all sorts of names that come from all sorts of cultures.

This concept is based on the experiences of Xiacpooqui E. Varnatuipastish, who in 1979 changed his name to Tom Riggs.

Racism breeds laziness. People don't expect you to perfectly reproduce their name, especially if it comes from another language they speak that may be tough for native English speakers. But you should try. Far too many people won't though.
