Evita Garces just keeps making history for American Airlines Group Inc.at the Fort Worth-based carrier. The position is one of five required by the Federal Aviation Administration in order for an airline to operate. Now, American has promoted Garces to vice president of line maintenance, giving her oversight of all line maintenance operations across its mainline fleet. She also has responsibility for more than 6,600 employees.
My prior role was tactical. I was focused on what's happening right now, how do we get out of this problem right now? The new role still has some of that because I have the responsibility of the people that are doing that work, but now I really have to take the organization to a level of how we achieve what I would say is sustainable, repeatable high performance.
So much has changed in the industry over the last couple of years because of Covid-19, and the industry is still recovering as it adapts to the new normal. How have maintenance operations changed? As the new hires get more experienced do you expect to see the maintenance operations become more and more smooth?
You talked about how you became interested in aircraft maintenance after reading a booklet about various high schools. What do you think needs to happen to get young people today to have that same curiosity or interest in aircraft maintenance?
Maybe she could oversee your incompetent customer service department then you might have a better passenger reputation
