Oracle Inc. is eliminating 201 positions from offices the tech giant has along the Peninsula.
The layoffs took effect Oct. 3 and affect Oracle's offices in Redwood City and Belmont, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification the company made to the state's Employment Development Department. Oracle, which was long based in the Redwood Shores area of Redwood City until it shifted its headquarters to Austin, Texas in December 2020, had about 7,000 employees based in the Bay Area, according to Business Journal research. The company has a total workforce of about 140,000 globally.
In its WARN letter, Anje Dodson, the company's senior vice president of human relations, sought to temper any speculation that the layoffs were a sign that Oracle was set to shut its local hub. But the cuts could be the start of a more widespread round of layoffs at the company.
